One of the most famous of these poems is “In Flanders Fields’’.

Cлайд 6 - In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

7 - This poem was written under the influence of his friend's death, who was buried on the field with blooming poppies. The poem was sent to the English shop “Punch” in 1915, and in 1918 Colonel McCrea died.

8 - Memorial services take place all over Britain on the second Sunday in November which is known as Remembrance Sunday.

9 - The Royal Family and top politicians attend a special service in London at the Cenotaph, which means “The Empty Tomb” in Greek. Old war veterans lay wreaths on the steps of the monument. At 11am, there is a two-minute silence.

10 - A lone soldier plays a piece of music called “The Last Post” on the bugle to introduce the two-minute silence. Soldiers play another piece, The Rouse, to signal the end of it. Musicians also play traditional wartime songs such as “The White Cliffs of Dover” and “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary”.
