Every year during the week before 11 November, people all over Britain wear a little red paper poppy. They do this to commemorate Remembrance Day, or Poppy Day, which takes place each year on 11’ November to remember the millions who died for their country. Poppy Day is on this date because World War I ended in the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

St. Valentine's Day is the day of sweethearts. This day people show their friends, relatives and beloved that they care and love them. People send candies or flowers to those whom they love. Most people send «valentines», greeting cards named after St. Valentine's letters written from prison. Valentines can be sentimental and romantic, or funny and friendly. Valentines can be anonymous. Valentines can be heart-shaped or have hearts on them. People buy valentines or make them themselves.

Every Christmas British people are presented a big Christmas tree by Norway. They put it up in Trafalgar Square in London. Streets and houses are decorated with lights.

Mime is the use of movements of your hands or body and the expressions on your face to tell a story or to act sth without speaking; a performance using this method of acting.

During invasion of Romans into Britain also St. Valentine's Day there was introduced. In England this holiday began to be accompanied by secret delivery of gifts, selection of couple for a lot. This day give sweets, soft toys, jewelry, and, certainly, an emblem of this holiday is the heart.

The history of Halloween began many times ago in the lands of modern Britain and Northern France. This territory was inhabited by Celtic tribes. They divided the year into two parts - winter and summer. Throughout the winter the Sun God was a prisoner of LORD OF THE DEAD, and THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS.

St. Patrick is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. He was born in the fourth century and is famous for bringing Christianity into Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day is a very well known Irish national holiday, which is celebrated not only in Ireland but all around the world. It falls on the 17th of March.
