The Literary Quiz based on “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll
Teacher: Good afternoon, students. Good afternoon, dear guests. I’m glad to meet you here. First of all some questions for you, pupils:
-Do you like reading?
-What is your favorite book?
-What British writers do you know?
Pupils: Johanna Rowling, William Shakespeare, Joseph Kipling, Agatha Christie.
T.: Thank you. This year the British will celebrate birthdays of several great writers: John Tolkien, Alan Milne and Lewis Carroll. John Tolkien is the author of “the Hobbit” and “the Lord of the Rings” (властелин колец). What is the most famous work of Alan Milne?
P.: It’s “Winnie-the-Pooh”.
T.: What works did Lewis Carroll write?
P.: “Alice in Wonderland”
T.: Right you are. And our today’s meeting will be devoted to the book of Lewis Carroll “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. Let’s listen to some facts from the life of Lewis Carroll (the presentation about Lewis Carroll-приложение №1).
Teacher: Now let’s see a play based on the book “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. It’s called “The Mad Tea Party” (сценарий сценки - приложение №2).
Teacher: Do you like the play? Do you understand it? Now let’s have a competition between classes. It consists of two parts. The first part is listening and the second one is a quiz. Do the tasks on sheets of paper special for every class. Choose a person who will deliver these sheets of paper to our jury. So work together and write down answers on only one sheet of paper. Let’s listen to the song “In a World of My Own” from the cartoon “Alice in Wonderland” and do some tasks. First of all, you should underline the right word. In the second task you should insert the right word. Is it clear? (приложение №3-песня) (приложение №4-бланк заданий для аудирования)
The second part of our competition is a quiz. Circle the right variant of an answer. You’ll have 10 min. Thank you very much. (приложение №5 – тест)
While the jury is counting points, let’s see an animated cartoon “Alice in Wonderland” (приложение №6 – фрагмент мультфильма)
Now listen to the jury. (объявление результатов и награждение)
I hope that you liked our meeting and you learned something new. Thank you for coming. Good luck.

– Hello, my name is Alice. I follow the White Rabbit down the rabbit house. Oh, What is it? It is a cat. It is a strange cat. He is sitting on a tree and smiling.
Alice: Hello! You are…
Cat: Yes, I’m Cheshire cat!
Alice: Would you tell me, please, where am I? And what is the way?
Cat: Well… That depends on where you want to get to…?
Alice: What sort of people live about here?
Cat: In that direction lives a Hatter and in that direction lives a March Hare. Visit either you like. They are both mad.
Alice: But I don’t want to go among mad people.
Cat: Oh, we are all mad here. I’m mad. You are mad.
Alice: I’ve often seen a cat without a smile, but a smile without a cat…It is the most curious thing I’ve ever seen in all my life.
March Hare: Merry, merry unbirthday!(2)
Hatter: Merry, merry unbirthday!(2)
March Hare: No room! No room!
Hatter: No room! No room!
Alice: But there is plenty of room.
March Hare: It’s very rude to sit down without being invited.
Hatter: It’s very very rude indeed.
Dormouse: Very-very rude indeed.
Alice: I’m very sorry. I enjoyed your singing.
March Hare: You enjoyed our singing?
Hatter: Wonderful. You must have a cup of tea.
Alice: It’s very nice. Sorry, I interrupted your birthday party.
March Hare: My dear child, it’s not a birthday party.
Hatter: Of course, not.
March Hare: It’s unbirthday party. It’s simple. When you have a birthday... Oh she doesn’t know.
Hatter: Listen to me. There are 365 days of a year. One of them is a birthday and 364 are an unbirthday.
Alice: That’s why it’s my unbirthday too.
March Hare: Yes.
Alice: It’s so sweet.
Hatter: Would you like some tea? You have some problems. Please, tell us about it.
Alice: It started when I was sitting on the bank with my cat.
Dormouse: Cat!!! Oh, my God, cat!!!
Hatter: Calm down, calm down.
March Hare: I have an excellent idea. Let’s change the subject.
Hatter: Why is the raven like a writing desk?
Alice: Let me see. Why is the raven like a writing desk?
March Hare: What ?
Alice: It’s your silly riddle.
March Hare: Have another cup of tea.
Alice: I’m sorry. But I don’t have time.
March Hare: Time. Time. Merry, merry unbirthday( singing with Hatter)
