Colony This country was one of the other numerous English colonies all over the world. Thanks to this fact, English is an official language of it. All these countries were small pieces of England. At the same time this country is the smallest one in Western Africa.

Climate The weather is one of the most pleasant in Africa, because the country is situated in sub-equatorial zone. So it’s dry and sunny from November till May and rainy and windy from June till October.

Wildlife Common animals in Gambia:

People The population of the Gambia is 1 700 000 according to statistics of 2007. 99 % of them are Africans, including other Gambian dialects. Half of Gambians live in towns, and half in the countryside.

Economy Export is mainly oriented on England. The principal products are peanuts and other products, connected with it. Economically the country is badly developed. 85 % of the population is busy in agriculture.

Education Education is free for 6 years, but it’s not compulsory. Literacy is Classroom at Armitage High School only about 40% of the total population. There are only 2 institutions of higher education, preparing specialists in such spheres as: education, agriculture, medicine and others.

Religion  Islam is the predominant religion, practised by approximately ninety percent of the country's population. The Christian community represents about eight percent of the population.

Conclusion Not so long ago Gambia was the object of struggling between 2 main colonial states (England and France) in the 17th century. Today Gambia is an independent country. People of Gambia paid a big price for it. They defended their territory and now they’re free.
