P: Good morning!

Т: Look out of the window, children. It’s winter now. Adlet, what are the winter months?

P: December, January and February are winter months.

T: Do you like winter?

P: What is your favourite season?

T: Sit down.

OK. Now pay attention to the blackboard. The theme of our lesson is “All doors  open to courtesy “. Today we are going to speak about politeness, revise Tag-questions and wordformation, act out short dialogues and now our phonetic drills.

II. Фонетическая зарядка.

  • [ә]- afraid [ә’ freid]
  • [ᶇ]- morning [mᴐ:ni ᶇ]
  • [i:]- please [pli:z]
  • [θ]-thousandfold [‘θauzәndfᴐld]

Be Polite.

Don’t be afraid to be polite,

To say ”Good morning” or “Good night!”

“I beg your pardon”,”Excuse me, please!”

And many more words just like these:

“You’re so kind”, ”I’m so sorry”

Use all these phrases, young and old,

In daily life a thousandfold.

III. Речевая зарядка.

Т: So, in the morning we say “ Good morning”. And do you know how English or American people greet each other?

P: I know that Americans are often very informal. Usually they say “Hi” whether they are greeting a close friend, an older person, a child or their employee.

T: That’s right. What would you say after being introduced to a person for the first time?

P: When you are leaving after being introduced to a person for the first time, it is polite to say: “It was nice to meet you” or “It was a pleasure to meet you”.

T: Yes, you are right. What is unusual and a bit strange for us in Britain?

P: Most British wait patiently even on the bus stops.

T: You are right. What else do you know about their customs?

P: In America and in GB people who are very good friends don’t shake hands. Unless they haven’t seen each other for a long time or one wants to congratulate the other.

IV. Проверка дом. задания. Монологические высказывания.

So, as we speak about politeness, we must know about the main principals of etiquette. There are 3 main principals.

The first principle is: Treat others as you want to be treated. Vadim, please come to the blackboard and say what does it mean?

V: Every one of us has to be treated with kindness and respect. If we hope to receive kindness and respect from other people, we must treat them with the same.

T: Good. Sit down.

The second principle is: Beauty is as beauty does.

Alina, what does it mean?

A: This means that our personal beauty depends on our behavior rather than on our physical appearance. In other words, it is how we act rather than how we appear that makes us ugly or beautiful. No matter what we look like, crude  behaviour  can make us ugly, while gracious behaviour can make beautiful in a very special way.

T: Good. Go to your place.

And the third principle is: A thing of beauty is a joy forever! Daniyar, what does it mean?

D: When you are around something that is ugly, you fill sad and depressed. On the other hand, when you are around something that is beautiful you feel happy. Generally speaking, people do not want to be around a person who makes them feel depressed. Instead, they want to be around someone who makes them feel good.

T: Thank you, sit down.

V. Развитие диалогической речи. (парная работа)

Now I want you to make short dialogues. You’ll work in four groups. There are some situations on the cards, take any and start to work.

What is polite, impolite or rude in different countries?

Politeness is very important at mealtimes.  In the UK, people usually  invite guests at 7.30  pm. or  8pm.  Guests are not expected to arrive early, and  it’s not  polite / impolite  to  be a little late, maybe 15 or 20 minutes, not more.

In Turkey it’s very  polite / impolite  to  ask guests to come at a certain time. They come whenever they want, early or late. It’s also  polite / impolite to bring a present  for  your  hosts.

In the UK, guests usually bring a bottle of  wine.

In Switzerland, guests often bring flowers, and  in Turkey they always bring sweets or chocolates.

VIII. Домашнее задание.

Now open your diaries and write down your home task. Your home task is ex. 1 p. 49
