«The national flag and fashion»

Тип урока: урок обобщения и закрепления изученного материала.

Цели урока: Способствовать:

• формированию критического мышления у учащихся.

• воспитанию чувства гордости и патриотизма за флаг России как символ государства.

• воспитанию уважительного отношения к символике других государств на примере флагов США и Великобритании.

Задачи: Формировать:

1. навык работы с дополнительными источниками;

2. умение:

• конструировать вопросы для анкеты и проводить анкетирование, как с детьми, так и с взрослыми;

• обрабатывать анкеты;

• письменно оформлять результаты анкетирования;

• работать в коллективе;

• вести дискуссию, выражая и обосновывая собственную точку зрения.

Наглядные средства и оборудование:

1. Персональный компьютер;

2. Проектор;

3. Система голосования Mimio Vote;

4. Сувенирные флажки России, США, Великобритании.

5. Карточки с текстами-загадками.

6. Анкета для детей;

7. Анкета для взрослых.

Приемы и методы: реализация частично-поискового метода с применением описания, анализа, синтеза и сравнения.

Ход урока:

1. Оргмомент:

- Hello, dear friends! I’m glad to see you. Today we are going to have a discussion, that’s why I suggest dividing into groups. We need three of them. Let’s be divided into groups. Each of you will get one of three short text-riddles, your task is to guess what national flag is described in your text. You have 1 minute. Good luck to you.

Three short text-riddles:

1. This flag is of red, blue and white colours. Firstly it was nicknamed “The Union”, now it has another name. It contained flags of three parts in spite of the fact that the country consists of four parts. What flag is it? How does it look like?

2. This flag is not nicknamed “Union Jack” or “Stars and stripes”. It was designed due to the Dutch shipbuilder David Butler in 1668. The flag has three stripes. What flag is it? How does it look like?

3. This flag was made by Betsy Ross. It is one of the oldest flags of the world. It is of red, blue and white colours. Firstly it was adopted by the Congress in 1777. This flag is not “Union Jack”, but it has its own nickname. What flag is it? How does it look like?

• Are you ready? OK! Those pupils, who have the text about Russian flag – you are the first group; who have the text about the “Stars and stripes” – you are the second group; and students with the text about the British flag will form the third group.

• For our discussion we need rules, which everyone agrees with. What are these rules?

• Raise your hand when you want to speak;

• Listen to other people carefully;

• Don’t interrupt when others speak;

• Respect other people’s opinions;

• Express your opinion and give reasons.

2. Дискуссия – основная часть урока.

• Well, let’s start our work. First of all let’s listen to the pupil, who has just returned from the USA. He took part in an exchange programme.

• Hello, dear classmates! Three days ago it was my last day in the USA. I had a lot of free time, so I decided to go shopping to buy some souvenirs. In the souvenir’s stalls I was very surprised, because I saw a lot of goods which were decorated with national flags of the USA and the UK. I saw even T-shirts and baseball caps with our Russian flag. My American friend explained these clothes had been made for The Olympic Games in Sochi. We had a very interesting debate, because I’m sure that the national flag is a holy symbol of any state, but not an element of clothes. What do you think about it? May we use national symbols in fashion? If we may, what for?

• So, what problem are we going to discuss today?

• Today we are going to speak about national flags and fashion.

• What is the definition of the word “flag”?

• The key part of the definition is the national flag is a symbol of the country. What do people of different countries say about their national flag?

Russia: (different points of view on the basis of Questionnaires, sources of information, taken from the Internet).

The USA: (different points of view on the basis of different sources of information, taken from the Internet)

The UK: (different points of view on the basis of some sources of information, taken from the Internet)

• What is your attitude towards your national flag?

• So we see that, though there are some people who don’t feel any pride for their national flags, the most part disagree with them, because they associate the national flag with the power of their Motherland.

• Alexey has said if we agree, that our national flag is a holy symbol, we mustn’t use it as an element of any clothes or their decoration. Express your point of view towards this question, please.

• Russia (express the idea that a national symbol and fashion is not the same on the basis of Questionnaires).

• The USA (express the idea that a national symbol and fashion is not the same on the basis of sources of information from the Internet).

• The UK (express the idea that a national symbol and fashion is not the same on the basis of sources of information from the Internet).

• So, it is not always good to use a flag as an element of clothes, sometimes it can be offensively.

• Can we say that clothes’ designers, who use national flags for creation underwear, shoes and swimsuits, are not patriots of their native countries?

• Russia (express the idea that a national symbol and fashion is not the same on the basis of their own experience and encyclopedia).

• The USA (express the idea that a national symbol and fashion is not the same on the basis of their own experience and encyclopedia).

• The UK (express the idea that a national symbol and fashion is not the same on the basis of sources of their own experience and encyclopedia).

• Well, a state’s symbol is the universal value of the whole society, but fashion is a form of culture, expressed in clothes. Fashion changes very often but human values are eternal.

• To my mind, people, who wear clothes with flags, even don’t think about this flag as a symbol of one or another country.

• The USA (their own experience).

• The UK (their own experience).

• Thank you very much for your work. Now, let’s make a conclusion. Take your desks, read the statements very carefully and vote. Here are the statements:

1. We should use national flags as an element of clothes wisely, because fashion popularizes it and raises the feeling of our citizens’ patriotism:

2. We may wear clothes with a national flag if it doesn’t break ethic norms of the society.

Критерии оценивания деятельности учащихся на данном уроке:

При оценивании участия в дискуссии важнейшим критерием явля­ется речевое качество и умение справить­ся с речевой задачей, т. е. понять партне­ра и реагировать правильно на его репли­ки, умение поддержать беседу на обсуждаемую тему. Диапазон используемых язы­ковых средств, в данном случае, предостав­ляется учащемуся.

Оценка «5» ставится ученику, который сумел решить речевую задачу, правильно употребив при этом языковые средства. В ходе полилога умело использовал реплики, в речи отсутствовали ошибки, нарушаю­щие коммуникацию.

Оценка «4» ставится учащемуся, кото­рый решил речевую задачу, но произно­симые в ходе полилога реплики были несколько сбивчивыми. В речи были паузы, связанные с поиском средств выражения нужного значения. Практически отсут­ствовали ошибки, нарушающие коммуни­кацию.

Оценка «3» выставляется ученику, если он решил речевую задачу не полностью. Некоторые реплики партнера вызывали у него затруднения. Наблюдались паузы, мешающие речевому общению.

Оценка «2» выставляется, если учащий­ся не справился с решением речевой зада­чи. Затруднялся ответить на побуждаю­щие к говорению реплики партнера. Ком­муникация не состоялась.
