  5. Цель урока: Развитие коммуникативных умений в устной речи.


Задачи урока


1. Образовательная: развивать умения общения на английском языке, умения аудирования; активизировать лексику по теме, формировать социокультурную компетенцию.

2. Развивающая: развивать интеллектуальные способности обучающихся, самостоятельность мышления, способствовать развитию чувства языка, языковой догадки, выбирать убедительную аргументацию, уточняющую собственную позицию.

3. Воспитательная: развивать умения сотрудничества в условиях групповой работы, прививать уважение и интерес к стране изучаемого языка.

Good morning, dear friends! How are you? I hope you are fine and let’s start our lesson. I think we’ll have an interesting and important theme of the lesson today because you are the eleventh graders, you are going to have your final exams soon and of course you think about leaving school and your future education. Am I right? So, look at the blackboard and try to guess the theme of our lesson (“Graduation party”)

Fine! How do you think what are the most important items? Today we’ll speak about your graduation and your skills, abilities and talents.

We shall work in two teams. Please, choose the captain and introduce your teams.

Let’s speak about your talents.

Your talent in guessing true/false

How is the school graduation in different countries of the world held? You’ll have to guess:


German-style graduation

1. In Germany, the celebration on the occasion of graduation begins even before passing the final exams.

2. The Germans celebrate this important moment with sophistication and luxury, a gala dinner and a ball. This evening, graduates wear elegant outfits, and the guys wear tailcoats and bow ties, dances are held to the music of live orchestras.

3. This outstanding event is held for the graduates only, no parents and grandparents are invited.

TRUTH: Parents and grandparents come to this luxurious event to celebrate the achievements of their offspring.

Japanese-style graduation

1. In Japan, graduation is an event that is celebrated modestly and traditionally.

2. Japanese students come to the ceremony of receiving diplomas in their traditional Japanese clothes.

TRUTH: The event is held within the walls of the school assembly hall, where Japanese students come in their usual school uniforms

3. In Japanese schools, there is a tradition for couples in love: as a sign of his love, a young man gives his soulmate the top button of his jacket, which is located near the heart. It symbolizes affection and the promise of love for life.

Norwegian-style graduation

1. In Norway they celebrate the end of school during several weeks in spring when they walk around the city in a special uniform, which includes a T-shirt and hoodie with the logo and name of the school, a cap, as well as a red jumpsuit on which classmates leave wishes for each other.

2. All the costs for the graduation are taken by the parents.

TRUTH: The organization of the celebration of graduation in Norway is undertaken by students at their own expense, the school administration does not participate in the preparation of events. This allows graduates to independently choose the venues and format of parties and do it the way they want.

3. Norwegian school graduates rent a bus, paint it in bright colors and use to travel around the evening city.


American-style graduation

1. In the USA prom has not such a meaning and such special traditions as in other countries.

TRUTH: In the United States, prom is a special event in the lives of high school students, for which a lot of attention and resources are allocated. Young men and women carefully choose their outfits to look stylish and elegant, for special luxury, a limousine is rented, which delivers happy graduates to the main event - the ball. A distinctive feature of American graduations is that many girls choose the dresses of their mothers or grandmothers to emphasize the beauty of the vintage style, the continuity of the family.

2. Usually, students have a ball where they come in pairs, and at the end of the evening, the headmaster announces the king and queen, who are awarded with special prizes.

3. It is important to note that in the United States, the prom is officially held without alcohol, since the use of alcohol is allowed only from the age of 21.


Chinese-style graduation

1. In China, the end of the school year is an important event that is celebrated by an unusual tradition. After the end of the exams, Chinese students throw out of the windows all items related to their studies: books, notebooks, pens, pencil cases, and so on. This symbolizes the end of the school year and the desire to forget about the difficult trials.

2. The end of the year has not special solemn celebrations.

TRUTH: Chinese schools hold solemn ceremonies, where students receive their diplomas and medals for achievements in studies and sports.

3. Schools organize concerts and exhibitions so that students can demonstrate their talents and skills.


Your talent in persuading


Choose one card. You will find a task for your team in it.

1 card. You are to make up a dialogue in which you have to invite your rivals to the Halloween Party by all means. You will be the winner if you make them accept your invitation.

2 card. Your rivals are trying to invite you to the Halloween party but you don’t want to go. Find any polite ways to refuse. You will be the winner if you make them to give up and stop persuading you.


Your talent in guessing logics


In this task you’ll have to solve the puzzle suggesting rearranging the matches to obtain a certain number of squares or triangles.

  2. Move three matches to make the fish look to the right (pic. 2)


Your talent in guessing arts


Please assemble the puzzles so that you have a famous painting. For an additional point give as much information about it as possible (prepare 2 pictures of famous paintings).

Rule: One of you can move the pazzlepieces and the rest of the team can advise (e.g. take the right one, turn it clockwise, put it to the very bottom and so on). The quickest team is the winner.

Your talent in communication


One of you meets a foreigner who wants to ask you a question. The question is put on a sheet of paper. Your task is to read it and try to explain to your team its meaning without saying a word from the note, use different words (not gestures). The team is to say what is written on the note.

(5) How many brothers and sisters have you got?
