This day give sweets, soft toys, jewelry, and, certainly, an emblem of this holiday is the heart. The special place this day is allocated for flowers. British borrowed French this custom of donation of flowers on St. Valentine's Day at the beginning of the 18th century. It reached the peak in days of board of queen Victoria (18371901). It is known that there is the whole alphabet of flowers by means of which it is possible to express all the feelings. But nevertheless, the greatest preference is given to a red rose which, according to a legend, appeared thanks to the love and beauty goddess to Aphrodite it stepped on a bush of white roses, and, having pricked a foot about thorns, painted these flowers in scarlet color. Louis XVI presented to Maria Antoinette this day a bouquet of red roses, and from here as believe many, this tradition went. Addition to any gift this day, certainly, are Valentine's Day cards cards with the image of hearts and words about love. Some consider, as the greeting card in general appeared in connection with Valentine's Day. The first factory production of Valentine's Day cards belongs to 1840. Now it is possible to buy the most various Valentine's Day cards: from the small and simple, executed serially, to the real works of art executed on imprinted paper, with silk inserts. But invariable on all cards there is a signature: "To You, with Love from Valentine”.
