Этот интерес был обусловлен несколькими причинами. Поэт бывал в этих краях неоднократно, начиная с детских лет. Он провел здесь почти три года в первую 1837 г. и вторую 1840–1841 гг. ссылку. И на Кавказе он трагически закончил свою короткую жизнь.
